Pattamadai Pai or Pattamadai Mats are meticulously woven out of Korai grass, procured from bank of the river Tamiraparani. The mats are combined with cotton or even silk yarns used in the warp to give flexibility to the mats. The mats are used for various purposes like of mats to sit and eat or worship on, to sleep on, do yoga or meditation on, home decor or wall decor.

Pattamadai Pai is an Exclusive GI of Tamil Nadu: Pattamadai Pai or Pattamadai Mats are indigenous eco-friendly mats. The craft is unique to the small village, Pattamadai, in the Tiruinelveli district of TamilNadu. The long and lustrous strands of Korai Grass are obtained from the banks of the river Tamiraparani. The strands smooth and soft just like silk, hence the mats are also called Pattu Pai or Silk Mats. Pattamadai Mats are handwaven by the Labbai Muslim weaver community of the village Pattamadai. The mats are also available in various colours such as red, blue, black, etc. Pattamadai Pai is an Exclusive GI of Tamil Nadu and was awarded a GI certification in 2013.
