The beautiful art of embroidering pure cotton “rumals” or handkerchiefs with untwisted vibrant coloured silk yarns hails from Chamba, a region in Himachal Pradesh. Traditionally, square-shaped fine muslin or hand-spun khaddar fabrics are intricately embroidered with double-satin stitch using silk yarns. The embroidery has colourful figures, floral motifs, folktales, and animals.
