Description
Khatambad wooden ceilings, also known as Khatamband or Khatambandh, are a unique form of traditional Indian architectural design found primarily in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The term "Khatambad" refers to a geometric pattern created by interlocking small wooden pieces.
These intricately designed wooden ceilings are considered to be a masterpiece of craftsmanship and are typically found in palaces, mansions, and historical buildings in the Kashmir region. Khatambad ceilings are known for their aesthetic appeal and their ability to enhance the beauty of interior spaces.
The construction of Khatambad wooden ceilings involves the use of small wooden pieces called "Khatams," which are usually square in shape and made from walnut, deodar, or oak wood. These Khatams are assembled in geometric patterns, forming a grid-like structure. The patterns can be simple or complex, ranging from basic geometric shapes to intricate floral and calligraphic designs.
